"Maud, and Other Poems" by Alfred Tennyson, New Edition, published in London by Edward Moxon & Co. in 1859. A charming 12mo volume (4.25" x 6.75"), 168 pages, handsomely bound in full maroon pebbled leather with blindstamped rule framing the boards. The spine has five raised bands, gilt lettering in the second and third compartments, and gilt date at the foot. All edges are gilt with bright gilt turn-ins.

The book features a particularly appealing fore-edge painting depicting a seated man watching another man fishing near a small waterfall. There are no identifying marks as to the painter, although a bookseller's note indicates that the scene was copied from the 1815 Angler's Guide.

The binding is signed by Nutt of Cambridge. A three-line gift inscription dated February 26, 1860 appears on the first free flyleaf, accompanied by some penciled bookseller's notes. Minor edgewear to the extremities, lightly rubbed boards with a few darker stains to the upper board, and minor foxing, primarily to the first and last leaves. A beautiful Victorian poetry volume with an especially attractive fishing-themed fore-edge painting.
