"Scenery of the Rhine, Belgium and Holland" from drawings by Captain Batty of the Grenadier Guards, F.R.S., published in London in 1826 by Robert Jennings.

First-edition illustrated travel work by Captain Robert Batty, presenting picturesque views of the Rhine, Belgium, and Holland. The volume combines descriptive text with finely engraved scenes of castles, towns, cathedrals, ruins, and river landscapes drawn by Batty during his continental travels.

4to (7.25 "x 10.5") Unnumbered pages. Quarter black leather with corners over navy faux leather. Spine with five gilt decorated raised bands, gilt lettering to second compartment, bold gilt rule frames all others, gilt "1826" to foot. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Some foxing seen, mostly marginal, finger smudges to some pages. Edgewear, corners bumped and rubbed through to boards, head of spine chipped with loss, evident repair. Rubbing to some of spine, both boards scuffed as well, extremities rubbed, scuffed with loss to paper at board edges. Illustrated with engraved title page and 61 engraved plates, as called for.

An appealing 19th-century volume for collectors interested in European travel, Rhine scenery, Belgium, Holland, historical landscapes, and picturesque travel literature.
