A 1580 Geneva printing of major philosophical and moral works by Marcus Tullius Cicero, including De Officiis (On Duties), De Senectute (On Old Age), De Amicitia (On Friendship), the Stoic Paradoxes, poetic fragments including the Aratea, and De Petitione Consulatus (On Canvassing for the Consulship), traditionally attributed to Cicero’s brother Quintus. The volume is especially strong as a Renaissance humanist text, combining ethics, friendship, aging, Stoic thought, politics, and classical learning. Denis Lambin’s annotations reflect the scholarly effort to establish and explain Cicero’s text from earlier sources.
