- The American Bible Society, which published this Bible, aimed to make the Bible accessible to immigrant communities in the United States. Danish immigrants would have been one of the target groups, so Bibles like this one were distributed in the U.S. rather than Denmark itself. This is different from European editions that were primarily printed for a domestic audience. The Society’s mission-focused approach often led to more affordable and simplified editions. This could mean the omission of certain decorative elements, commentary, or additional texts that might appear in European-published Bibles intended for local congregations or private devotional use. The American production style was more utilitarian, contrasting with the finer craftsmanship often found in European Bibles. Many Bibles produced by the American Bible Society were purely scriptural, without additional liturgical or doctrinal notes. 7156The publication of Danish Bibles by the American Bible Society around 1848 was likely influenced by the growing number of Danish immigrants in America, their need to maintain religious and cultural identity, and the American Bible Society's mission to support immigrant communities. This effort provided Danish immigrants with a familiar and comforting religious text, enabling them to sustain their faith and connect with their heritage in a new country.
