From Wiki: Louis Ellies du Pin (17 June 1657 – 6 June 1719) was a French theologian and historian. Born into a noble family in Normandy, he was a doctor at the Sorbonne and holder of the chair of Greek and Latin philosophy at the Royal College from 1693. He devoted the greater part of his life to writing the Universal Library of Ecclesiastical Authors, an immense work in which he gives the lives of these writers, the catalogue and chronology of their works, a judgment on their style and doctrine, and the enumeration with critical examination of the different editions of their works. The judgments he made in this work on several Fathers caused him to be condemned in Rome and he was also sharply criticized by certain French theologians, notably by Bossuet.
