"Fiji and the Fijians, 1835–1856" by G. C. Henderson, published in Sydney, Australia, by Angus & Robertson Ltd. in 1931. This historical account explores the Fiji Islands during the years 1835–1856, presenting a view of Fijian life and society through the perspective of missionaries. Illustrated with photographs, maps, and drawings, it offers a fascinating resource for readers interested in Fijian history, Pacific Island cultures, and nineteenth-century missionary activity.

Octavo (6" x 9.75"), 333 pages. Bound in full maroon cloth with a blind-stamped rule to the upper cover and a plain rear board. The spine retains its original material following professional rebacking, with faded gilt lettering on the sun-darkened spine. Illustrated with a black-and-white photographic frontispiece and 38 additional maps, photographs, and drawings, including one colored illustration and one folding map; all illustrations are accounted for. The original dust jacket is lacking.

Condition shows very little edgewear apart from the old and renewed spine edges. The endpapers have been refreshed, and a small bookseller’s sticker from Broadbeach Waters, Australia, appears at the foot of the front pastedown. Intermittent light foxing occurs throughout, heavier at the front and rear. Thin marginal dampstains appear at the foot of the final quarter of the text, and nearly every plate has a small, thin dampstain near the lower inner margin; these do not affect the facing pages.

An illustrated historical volume for collectors of Fijian history, Pacific studies, missionary accounts, and books on nineteenth-century island life.
