Full faux tortoise covers, front cover with fancy gilt frame surrounding a large centered gilt device with the title in gilt centered to the cover. Spine with heavy gilt ornamentation, gilt title towards head, gilt sub-title towards foot with heavy gilt overall decoration (see pic). All edges gilt. Old bookplate of E.S.H. Strang to front pastedown. Foot of spine chipped with tiny closed tears. Joints rubbed, evidence of re-attached front board. All four corners chipped, with small loss. 50 engravings. Some signatures loose, originally glued, all present. Covers could be described as imitation varnished burr walnut. Chips to the fore-edge of the first few pages, some pages laid in having come apart from spine, all present. Facsimile author signatures to rear of volume. A Beautiful Book, in a unique cover.
