Place: Japan

Date: 19th century

Number of volumes: 1 volume, complete

Description: 4to. (9 3/4" x 7") Original paper wrappers, covers worn and detached, all leaves detached, some leaves split/torn at folds, some light chipping/fraying to some edges (no loss of text or image). 19 double leaves. It is encased in a finely crafted Japanese folding case (chitsu), traditionally used to house books or manuscripts. The case is covered in textured sage-green cloth with smooth cream-colored interior lining. The exterior features a vertical paper title label with Japanese characters reading 築山庭作傳 上 (“Tsukiyama Teizukuden, Volume I”), printed in classical script. The case opens in a tri-fold design with a tuck-in flap (see pic), forming a secure enclosure for the volume. The craftsmanship is meticulous, with tight cloth joints and reinforced edges.
