Sir Roger L’Estrange’s influential English rendering and adaptation of Aesop’s fables and other ancient moral tales, presented with extensive morals and reflections. Rather than simply translating the stories, L’Estrange frequently expands them into commentary on human behavior, politics, vice, prudence, and social conduct. This copy contains both Part One, Fables of Aesop and Other Eminent Mythologists and Part Two, Fables and Storyes Moralized, bound together in one volume. The engraved portrait of L’Estrange and the full-page fable engraving add substantial visual interest.
