"Australia and Homeward" by Rev. D. Vannorman Lucas, M.A., published in Toronto by William Briggs in 1888. This illustrated nineteenth-century account offers observations of Australia and its people, places, and way of life, with numerous illustrations depicting Australian scenes and features. The book provides an interesting glimpse into Victorian-era perceptions of Australia and is an appealing addition for collectors of Australian history and nineteenth-century illustrated literature.

12mo (4.75" x 7.5"). Bound in full red cloth with gilt lettering and decoration to the covers and spine. The upper cover features an attractive gilt depiction of a ship at sea. The book is protected by its clear dust jacket. There is chipping at the crown of the spine, bumped top corners, and rounded lower corners. The spine has sun-faded, with slight spotting across the rear board. A previous owner's inscription appears on the first free endpaper.

Includes a frontispiece portrait of Rev. D. Vannorman Lucas, M.A., along with numerous illustrations depicting life and features of Australia. A loose ticket to Paris is laid in, likely associated with a previous owner. A charming Victorian-era volume for collectors of Australian history, colonial-era life, illustrated books, and nineteenth-century accounts of Australia.
