"The History of the Crusades" by Joseph François Michaud, translated from the French by W. Robson, published in New York by Redfield in 1853. Complete in three volumes, this historical work examines the Crusades and their far-reaching religious, political, and military consequences. A compelling collection for readers and collectors interested in medieval history, religious conflict, and nineteenth-century historical scholarship.

12mo (5" x 7.5"), three volumes. Handsomely bound in half brown calf with leather corners over marbled boards. The spines feature five gilt-decorated raised bands, gilt titles and author/volume lettering on black leather labels, and elaborate gilt decoration in the remaining compartments. The set has marbled endpapers and marbled edges, with three maps serving as frontispieces.

Condition: The bindings show rubbing to the covers and bumped corners. All three volumes have older damage to the hinges and gutters that has been repaired. Volumes I and II have chipping and minor loss at the head and foot of the spines; Volume I also has a repaired spine and some chipping to the extremities. Black blocks appear midway through the fifth spine compartments of all volumes, possibly remnants of earlier labels. Volume III has a closed tear to pages 31–32 affecting the text and a small hole in the first free flyleaf. Despite these condition issues, this is a complete and attractively bound historical set with three maps, ideal for collectors of medieval history and antiquarian literature.
