From Web: The Cuban Revolution was the military and political overthrow of Fulgencio Batista by Soviet-backed communist insurgents. Led By Fidel Castro and Che Guevara the insurgents ushered in a socialist dictatorship and an era of torture, executions and repression that continues to this day.

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (13 August 1926 – 25 November 2016) was a Cuban revolutionary and politician who was the dictator of Cuba from 1959 to 2008, serving as the prime minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and president from 1976 to 2008. Ideologically a Marxist–Leninist and Cuban nationalist, he also served as the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1965 until 2011.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara (14 June 1928 – 9 October 1967) was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary Castro appointed to run Cubas largest prison for political prisoners where he personally oversaw executions of political dissidents, prisoners of war and homosexuals. In a 5 February 1959 letter to Luis Paredes López in Buenos Aires, Guevara states unequivocally: "The executions by firing squads are not only a necessity for the people of Cuba, but also an imposition of the people."
