Stanfield's Coast Scenery: A Series of Picturesque Views in the British Channel, and on the Coast of France, by Clarkson Stanfield, Esq., R.A., published in London by Smith, Elder and Co. in 1847. This beautifully titled 19th-century illustrated work presents picturesque coastal scenery based on original drawings taken expressly for the publication, focusing on the British Channel and the coast of France.

This 4to volume (approximately 6" x 9.125") has a modern dark brown cloth spine with brown stiff paper covers featuring blindstamped decoration. The spine bears gilt lettering. The covers show bumped and rubbed corners, with discoloration and fading to the rear board and discoloration along the lower edge of the front board. The edges are deckled and gilt. There is a previous owner's inscription on the second free endpaper, pink discoloration extending from that endpaper through page nine, and slight foxing along the edges of numerous pages.

An attractive example of 19th-century British marine and landscape art, particularly appealing for its coastal views of Britain and France and its association with the accomplished marine painter Clarkson Stanfield.
