"The Historical Writings of John Fiske," Standard Library Edition, 1902. Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company. Twelve volumes complete, 8vo (approximately 5.5" x 8.25"), comprising Fiske's monumental history of the United States from 1600 through the Confederation in 1789.

The collection includes The Discovery of America (Volumes I–III), Old Virginia and Her Neighbors (IV–V), The Beginning of New England (VI), The Dutch and Quaker Colonies (VII–VIII), New France and New England (IX), The American Revolution (X–XI), and The Critical Period in American History, 1783–1789 (XII).

A particularly handsome set, uniformly bound in half burgundy leather with leather corners over marbled boards, gilt rules to the leather edges, five gilt-decorated raised bands, gilt spine lettering and wreath devices, top edges gilt, and marbled endpapers. The bindings show essentially no edgewear and have evidently been exceptionally well cared for; the spines are lightly and evenly sun-faded to a russet tone. Each volume has an engraved frontispiece, with 235 maps, photogravures, charts, and facsimiles distributed throughout the set.
