Format
First Italian edition, second state with the date changed to 1560 (the first state has the date of 1559). The 42 engravings by Valverde are reductions from the originals by Vesalius; of these 15 are reworkings or new inventions. The drawings are by Gaspar Becerra (1520? -68?) Made by Nicolas Beatrizet (c. 1507? -70?), A French artist from Michelangelo's circle known in Rome as Nicola Beatricetto. Valverde wanted to publish an Italian version to prove to his readers that it was not just a re-edition of Vesalius, but an original work. His justification for using copies of Vesalius' prints was that in this way the differences between their theories could be expressed more clearly.
