James Wilkinson, born in 1757, was a complex figure in American history, serving in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and later facing accusations of treason and involvement in questionable schemes. He was initially lauded for his military service, including his time as an aide to Major General Nathanael Greene, but later tarnished by accusations of double-dealing with the Spanish empire and participation in the Aaron Burr conspiracy.
