"Germany," by Baroness Stael Holstein (Madame de Staël), translated from the French and published in London by John Murray in 1813. This set contains Volumes I and II of the original three-volume edition, with the third volume lacking.
Octavo (5.75" x 9"), in pale green binder's card covers and spines. The front boards are fully detached, while the spines are heavily worn and torn, with a single large paper label that is barely readable. The bookseller's stamp of Peter Pinnie Bookseller, Aberdeen appears in the volumes. Volume I has a tear at the top of the title page.
An early English translation of Madame de Staël's influential work on Germany, its culture, literature, philosophy, and society, and an interesting example of an early-19th-century John Murray publication.
