"Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo, published circa 1900 in New York and Boston by William R. Jenkins, Libraire Français, and Carl Schoenhof. This handsome five-volume French-language set presents Hugo’s celebrated novel of injustice, redemption, sacrifice, and social upheaval in an elegant antiquarian binding.

Octavo (5" x 7.5"). Five volumes, complete. Bound in half red leather with leather corners over marbled boards. The spines feature five raised bands with gilt decoration, gilt lettering in the second and third compartments, and intricate gilt frames with a centered gilt device in the remaining compartments. Gilt rules accent the leather edges, the top edges are gilt, and the endpapers are marbled. The bindings show edgewear and bumped corners, with most corners rubbed through to the boards and tiny areas of loss. A couple of board edges have small nicks.
